Tyler Ashworth is an experienced architectural design professional living and working in Washington D.C. Skilled in all phases of architectural design & production, with experience on civic, community, education, multi-family, and healthcare projects, Tyler also stands apart with strong executive business management and strategic planning skills. Rooted in his educational background, Tyler’s work remains focused on sustainability and ecologically responsible design in both building and renovation projects.
Tyler currently works on the team at VOA Associates Inc., a top ranked and award winning international design practice based in Chicago. In DC Tyler helps lead the production of multifamily, commercial base building, and specialized healthcare facility projects.
Prior to joining VOA, Tyler worked as an architectural designer at Maryland based, Wiencek + Associates, a local community based practice and leaders in the multifamily and affordable housing industry for the greater DC metropolitan area. While in Las Vegas, Tyler also worked with SH Architecture, a firm well known in the valley for their expertise in sustainability and high desert design.
Tyler maintains a LEED AP BD+C credential as well as a Green Globes Professional credential for certification of sustainable buildings. Tyler has also completed his IDP record with NCARB and completed 6 of the 7 ARE exams on track to receive his architectural license in 2014.
Tyler is an experienced executive level board leader having served the National Boards of Directors of the AIAS, the AIA, and the NAAB.
In 2010-2011 Tyler served as the 54th National President and Chairman of the Board of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). The AIAS, a $1.6 MM non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., has a rich history as being the official voice for architecture students in North America and beyond. The organization has a membership of near 7,000 students help advance the future of the profession and academia through focused efforts on leadership, service, and education. During his term Tyler helped lead the organization through the hiring and transition of a new Executive, strategically restructured the organization, and helped return the AIAS to its first fiscal year end net financial gain in over 5 years.
Tyler currently serves as a Director on the National Architectural Accrediting Board, the sole body in the US authorized to accredit schools of architecture. As a Director Tyler is involved in setting the standards for accreditation and evaluating schools of architecture in the US and abroad.
